Hello! My name is Stephanie Spence. I am the portrait and editorial photographer behind Suspence.Photo, and I am in love with what I do.

I have been photographing most of my life, starting my journey as a kid with disposable film cameras my mom bought me from Walgreens. We took a road trip every summer, and I documented our adventures along the way. I was inspired most by small towns and rural places, always curious about the people I saw through the car window. After high school, I became more serious about photography, bought my first 35mm film camera, and enrolled in Yavapai College to study darkroom techniques. After the darkroom permanently closed, I began to pursue digital photography. In 2017, I moved to Missoula, MT, to study at the Rocky Mountain School of Photography, where I graduated as a Valedictorian. Since moving back to Arizona in 2018, I have found nowhere else quite as inspiring as my native home.

Through photography, I hope to change the world and touch the lives of the many people I meet, regardless of who they are or where they have been. Each photograph I create serves a unique purpose worth documenting and sharing. It could be a meaningful moment in my client’s life, a visual aid for a larger narrative, or an opportunity to promote a product or business. I believe photographs are records of our collective memories worth keeping for a lifetime.

I believe in building genuine rapport between my subjects to capture their personalities and collaborating with my business and editorial clients to achieve a polished, final project. My images are art-driven with cinematic quality, emphasizing the intentional use of light, setting, and mood. My style is gritty, edgy, and nostalgic. I am inspired by the diverse landscape of the American West, Blues/Country/Soul music, and worn Americana aesthetics.
